4 Secret Super Foods To Gain Weight Fast!

For those people trying (struggling?) to gain weight and build muscle mass, you know that your nutrition program is a key factor.

But not all food is created equal.

In fact, there’s a secret underground legion of do-gooders that faithfully join together to come to the aid of frustrated hardgainers and take a stand against genetic injustice.

Gifted with powers that have the ability to transform toothpick thin nerdlings into tight, angular chick-magnets as they work their magic inside your body, their identities are largely a secret, hidden from society.

Until now!

I’ve stumbled upon their clandestine identities and I’m willing to share their secrets in the name of justice for all fellow “muscle nerds” who struggle with gaining weight!

Add these 4 “super foods” to your diet and unleash their hidden power on your muscles:

#1 Super Food to Gain Weight: Walnuts

Walnuts contain an incredible combination of healthy monounsaturated fats, the amino acid l-arginine, and phytosterols.

This means they offer you increased calorie consumption and increased levels of nitric oxide, a natural element in the body that aids in stimulate muscle recovery and growth.

Plus, walnuts even help prevent heart disease and cancer, negating the effects of harmful saturated fats found in high-fat foods.

Aim for about 20 grams of walnuts per day if you’re eating this particular super food to gain weight.

#2 Super Food to Gain Weight: Oranges

Oranges are high in vitamin C, a potent protector of nitric oxide levels in the body.

Vitamin C helps keep the nitric oxide “bioavailable” so it can be used for building muscle mass.

This works in tandem with the addition of walnuts to your diet.

Try to eat an orange about 30 to 45 minutes before your workout.  This will help keep your nitric oxide levels where you need them most during your training.

#3 Super Food to Gain Weight: Dried Fruit

Dried fruit is relatively high in sugar, but most of it is also loaded with fiber and jam-packed with vitamins and minerals that are necessary to build muscle and stay healthy. That reduces the storage of body fat.

Dried fruits are also loaded with calories, which help you achieve that calorie surplus you need from your food to gain weight.

Bring some dried fruit along with you for snacks throughout the day but make sure you drink a lot of water with it so you don’t get dehydrated.

Also, stay away from commercial dried bananas that are loaded with fat and try to find “unsulfured” versions of these foods.

#4 Super Food To Gain Weight: Sugar

Yes, you read that right…SUGAR!

Sugar triggers the release of the hormone insulin into your body.

Insulin is the most anaolic of all hormones and has the ability to increase your muscle mass at lightspeed.

BUT (and this is a BIG “but”) you must know how to handle its super powers or it will backfire on you as you gain massive amounts of BODY FAT!

Most guys know to consume a high-sugar meal immediately after your workout because that’s when sugar can help you recover faster.

But if you’re trying to gain weight, there are other times that are beneficial as well.

I could write a whole book on sugar, insulin, and  how to use them to gain weight fast but I laid every step out in full detail in an advanced process of “sugar cycling” in my book on how to gain weight and build muscle, “Hardgainer Project X” (

Hardgainer Before And After PicturesIn fact, the “human lab rats” who used my sugar cycling method overcame huge challenges in gaining weight (wait until you see Eddys’s photos!) and shocked their friends with their transformation.

Go check out their photos and the process they used to acheive such great success at

I’m curious would say mixing orange juice with protein shake be as effective as eating a whole orange

    • Patrick says:

Mike – Nothing in a box or bag is going to be as good as the whole, natural version. That being said, if you are “set” on drinking orange juice as opposed to eating an orange, make sure that the juice is NOT FROM CONCENTRATE.

Now, on the other hand, if you’re a hard gainer, whole, natural “not from concentrate” juice can be a big help because it still contains lots of calories, but without the fiber. Therefore it doesn’t fill you up as much, keeps you feeling hungry and therefore allows you to eat/drink more and thus increase calorie consumption. But again, you lose out on the fiber and some great nutrients from the whole version of the food. Weighing the pros and cons is a personal choice, unless you have a trained professional helping you track progress and making adjustments as needed to reach your goals.

    • Sarvjeet says:

Yes…I have myself used orange juice with the protein powders….it works like wonders.

Hey Jeff loved the post. I didn’t realize walnuts were that good for you. I’m going to start eating them often. I think you missed two other big ones though. I think eggs and sardines are also super foods in my opinion. Everyone knows about eggs but sardines are loaded in protien and omegas and low on calories. They can’t be beat

  6. DM says:

Great advice. Alas, walnuts are not very compatable with me. I get canker sores in large amounts. Would pecans work?

  7. Sam says:

I would be very careful here about sugar………. some people may have resistance to insulin … and the large consumption of sugar will have disasterous consequences , therefore I would have to qualify the consumption of sugar

    Thanks Jeff,
I was already primal/paleo. and loading up on the walnuts (GREAT in ceasar salad!), but the sugar is double edged sword has had me going this past week. I’ve been taught again and again that sugar is empty insulin producing “white death”, and have had huge success since going primal (no sugar or grain). BUT, as you said in your supplements book, and I’ve read in a few different sources in the last two weeks, there is a VERY brief window immediately after intense exercise in the anabolic stage when sugar and insulin supposedly DO in fact allow for greater protein synthesis and Glycogen replacement. Ironic huh? Go primal and sugar free every breathing moment, except for the 15 minutes at the tail end of a work out when switching from BCAAs and Maltodextrin over to Isolated Whey Protein and Glutamine. I’ll let you know how it works.

this is a great idea. traveling around made me even heavier than before, especially when i traveled to southeast asia, where the food is just great!

but here in viet nam, the choices are really good, and vegetables here are really cheap, i think the cheapest in all the places ive been too. more and more, i eat vegetables than meat, and i am feeling so much better! i feel lighter too. veggies just give you the feeling of fullness all the time, and then the fiber does wonders to my digestion. try broccoli sautee. or greens in light vinaigrette.

im telling you, it’s awesome. they have buffet everywhere here, and im

just so grateful that the buffet here are healthy.coz i know even if i stuff myself with a lot of caesar salad with tuna (without the heavy dressing) , im still gonna be ok…

so who cares about counting calories? eating healthy is really cool. if in case you need to know where i get my ideas from, please visit this site i found the other day, they have great ideas. from you!!!
